About Atlanta

Building on the success of the 1996 Summer Olympics, Atlanta has awakened to opportunity, optimism, and openness. Atlanta’s thriving neighborhoods, cutting-edge architecture and cultural diversity will reshape your perceptions of the South. This Georgia peach is a big city with Southern hospitality.

Atlanta, the “Capital of the South,” is the transportation and commercial hub of the Southeast region of the United States, and its international airport is the busiest in the world. Service, communications, retail trade, manufacturing, finance, and insurance industries lead its economy. Many major corporations such as Home Depot, CNN, Coca-Cola, and UPS are headquartered in Atlanta. The city is also home to the largest aquarium in the world, the new Georgia Aquarium.

Even with a population of more than 5 million, Atlanta’s convention business is also important. The city boasts excellent conference venues and more than 90,000 hotel rooms in the metropolitan area. Atlanta offers a wide range of options that ensure it is the premier destination for every attendee and all types of programs.

Professional sports teams generate city spirit. The Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Thrashers create pride from the field to the ice. No matter the sport, the season, or the opportunity…in Atlanta, every day is an opening day.

Activities

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Turner Field, the "Home of the Braves," is an Atlanta landmark and the benchmark for future baseball park design. Turner Field combines the nostalgia and atmosphere of old-time baseball with state-of-the-art family entertainment unlike that of any other park. Your Braves game experience starts long before they throw the first pitch. A 100-foot diameter photograph of Hank Aaron's actual 715th home run ball dominates the Grand Entry Plaza, welcoming guests to the food and game-filled pavilions. Designed to teach fans about the fine art of scouting, Scouts Alley integrates original scouting reports of great Braves players with skill games, educational interactives, and touch screen kiosks. The Chop House, a bar and restaurant, and Top of the Chop, are the ultimate party zone furnished with 200 feet of railing to view the field and a three tiered party deck for fans to hang out and still enjoy a great view of the game. True baseball fans won’t want to miss the Braves Museum and Hall of Fame, where they’ll find historical memorabilia from the Braves’ years in Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta. One of the most prized possessions is Hank Aaron’s bat and ball from his 715th homerun on April 8, 1974, breaking Babe Ruth’s long-standing homerun record. Join the crowd for the “Tomahawk Chop” because, with the 1996 World Series Champion Atlanta Braves, it’s sure to be a great game!

GeoTeaming in Downtown Atlanta

In this experiential learning adventure, multiple “Geo Teams” embark on a high-tech treasure hunt around Downtown Atlanta and Centennial Olympic Park, giving participants the opportunity to explore the city’s landmarks. Each team is given GPS units that are pre-programmed with vital coordinates of the goals, called caches. Utilizing the GPS units and team skills, each team will collaborate to find caches, which can take the form of trivia answers and team challenges. The Olympic Rings Fountain, the Atlanta From the Ashes sculpture, Woodruff Park, and the World of Coca-Colas are only a few of the city’s landmarks included on the course.

For this competitive event, teams must design and execute a plan to complete the challenges they will encounter in pursuit of the final goal. Participants enjoy the excitement of combining adventure with technology while building stronger connections with each other, improving communication skills, creating conflict resolution strategies and developing specific action plans for fine-tuning performance in the workplace. Participants rave that this program is a great way to experience Atlanta, and also tons of fun!

Golf Fore You

Boasting more than 100 public courses within the city and its surrounding areas, Atlanta golf offers something for every skill level and budget. The ever changing hills and mature trees that make Atlanta's old neighborhoods so charming also do the same for its golf courses. Choose your perfect golf atmosphere amongst the shores of Lake Allatoona or spectacular views of Stone Mountain. Our most preferred courses feature those designed by Fred Couples, Robert Trent Jones Sr., and Tom Fazio. With the many courses to choose from in Atlanta, we can always find one that will be just right for your guests!

Atlanta Motor Speedway Racing Experience

Get your motor running and your heart pumping at Atlanta Motor Speedway with the racing thrills of the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Ride shotgun in a NASCAR-style stock car driven by a professional instructor, or get behind the wheel yourself, jam your foot on the gas, and drive white-knuckle laps around the track at speeds exceeding 150 miles per hour. The waving of the checkered flag, pit stops and more make the NASCAR experience complete. The stock cars may speed around the track, but your guests’ memories of this racing experience will last a lifetime.

Special Events

Journey Through Georgia

Take a romantic balloon ride through the regions of Georgia experiencing the “Georgia Mountains,” “Coastal Georgia,” “Georgia’s Capital City” and “The Georgia Piedmont”. Guests begin their journey through a large archway covered with colorful maps with hot air balloon cutouts highlighting each area of Georgia. Guests walk through rope and stanchions flanking red carpet to a pair of ticket booths with signage printed with various departure times and destinations. Entering the event, guests are wowed to see a delightful display of colorful hot air balloons as far as the eye can see. Four grand buffets, each completed with a large five-foot tall hot air balloon, represent the evening’s destinations surrounded by complimentary tables.

Aqua Atlanta

Welcome to the largest aquarium in the world – The Georgia Aquarium! Upon entering, guests pass a large window into one of the aquarium’s tanks where a variety of fish swim by. A school of Manta Rays go by as if they are flying and guests catch a glimpse of the massive whale sharks, the largest fish in the ocean.

The Arctic Room is set up around a large viewing window into the Beluga Whale tank. The ghostly creatures swim as if they are dancing and interacting with guests at the window. The dinner rounds are draped in pale blue lamour with a coordinating napkin folded at each place setting. Centerpieces are set with a base of white hydrangea and lisianthus, showcasing a glass drum cylinder that holds three floating candles. Flickering candlelight votives cast a soft glow on these exquisite centerpieces and each place setting. American fare from Wolfgang Puck is served for a delightful meal. Because Wolfgang’s signature catering does not include a hotbox, the meal comes right out of the kitchen and served piping hot to the guests. A jazz trio entertains during the delicious dinner.

Dinosaurs After Dark

Our prehistoric past is a prologue to this exciting night at Fernbank Natural History Museum, which combines the wonders of natural history with the modern age. Guests are welcomed into an elegant brick atrium accentuated with tropical foliage. As they continue down the winding spiral staircase into the museum’s aptly named Great Hall, guests delight in awe as they are greeted by the 100 million-year-old gigantic dinosaurs towering above them. The 86-foot-high ceiling and the aged limestone tile flooring further accentuate this larger than life atmosphere.

In contrast to the museum’s ancient splendor, guests are surprised by the contemporary look of bright neon colored linens with an accent of colored flair on the white wooden chairs. More tropical foliage and greenery complement the unique floral arrangements, which serve as centerpieces on the round tables. The band is playing soft tunes on the black and white dance floor, setting the mood while guests help themselves to savory hors d’ oeuvres and a beverage from the bar. Following the delicious dinner, the 5-piece band turns it up a notch, and guests dance the night away to their favorite tunes. It is evident that billions of years have passed leading up to this wonderful evening, and it is certain to be remembered for years to come.

We Got Game

Your guests GOT GAME! This event is a sure hit since everyone loves food, cocktails, games, music and fun. Guests enter into an upscale entertainment complex with vibrant color and a variety of gaming options from pool to basketball to pinball.

Upon entering, music from the disc jockey pumps through the room while pulsing lights beckon guests to the dance floor. Behind the disc jockey hangs a large white spandex panel with your company logo dancing in vibrant colors. Surrounding the dance floor are long black elliptical highboy tables with candle lit glass centerpieces. The black wooden barstools are the perfect seat for people to rest their feet while keeping an eye on the dance floor. Other surrounding tables feature a color palette of tangerine and deep purple with bright floral centerpieces. Additional highboy tables are topped with mesh pewter votive lamps and surrounded by black vinyl. Chrome barstools are scattered through the gaming area for guests to rouse each other while at play.

A group has surrounded the pool table and two teams eagerly try to sink the eight ball. Shouts and cheers swell from a much noisier crowd gathered around an intense game of air hockey. It’s a winning night!

Tours

Buckhead Homes and History

Buckhead has a reputation as Atlanta's most affluent and elegant district. But its name preserves the legacy of its frontier beginnings, when hunting in the virgin forests was the main local enterprise. Now Buckhead is the jewel of Atlanta, an area of gracious homes, elegant hotels, shopping centers and some of the city's best restaurants.

Tucked among the green trees in Buckhead, the Atlanta History Center features a museum housing memorabilia from Atlanta’s past. Its grounds feature actual “homes” as examples of historical life in Atlanta, how they relate to the present success of Atlanta and celebrate the cultivation of the South. The Tullie Smith House, an Atlanta "plantation plain-style" farmhouse of the 1840s, has been completely restored and authentically furnished. The Swan House, a former private home built in 1929, has been restored to its grandeur. Beautiful landscaping and large-scale architecture of Philip Shutze depict the privileged lifestyle of the original owners. The Swan motif appears in every room of this 1920s Italian and English classical style masterpiece.

Guests conclude their experience at the Atlanta History Center with lunch at the Swan Coach House, where Southern delights are on the menu.

From Page to Stage

Atlanta’s past thrives in the present on this tour featuring Gone with the Wind author Margaret Mitchell and The Fabulous Fox Theatre. First, capture a glimpse inside Margaret Mitchell’s life and career by touring her modest home and viewing exclusive photographs and archival exhibits at the Margaret Mitchell House and Gone with the Wind Museum. Guests’ experience at this historic site ends with an opportunity to enjoy the Gone with the Wind Museum Shop, complete with unique gifts, souvenirs, collectibles and memorabilia.

The next stop is the Fabulous Fox Theatre, one of the last remaining grand movie palaces. Now the stage for visiting Broadway shows and a summer movie series in Atlanta, it was originally built as a Shrine Temple. With more than $1 million worth of gilt overlay, this Moorish masterpiece houses priceless works of art and breathtaking architecture. Middle Eastern and Egyptian designs create a dreamlike spectacle of grandeur.

Thirst for Atlanta

Whether you have a thirst for a classic cola or a thirst for breaking news, it will be quenched on this interactive tour. Guests first step into The World of Coca-Cola, an experience unique to Atlanta that features exciting multi-media exhibits tracing the history of the planet’s favorite soft drink. As guests move at their own pace throughout the galleries, they will catch a glimpse of the bottling process and stop at the replica late-1930s Barnes Soda Fountain, where an old-fashioned "soda jerk" demonstrates how an early Coca-Cola was prepared and served. Soak up the dazzling, high-definition surround sound musical film on the international character of Coca-Cola, and then recall your favorite jingles with classic television commercials for Coca-Cola spanning over 50 years. Thirst is finally quenched, literally, at Club Coca-Cola where guests experience “Taste of the States,” enjoying servings of favorite Coca-Cola products offered in the U.S. Don’t skip the International Lounge, offering “Tastes of the World,” a sampler of over 20 exotic Coca-Cola beverages not available in the states.

News junkies will find satisfaction on our next stop, CNN Center, where they’ll enjoy a guided tour of the world-famous news studio. Guests experience the Main Control room, a one-of-a-kind re-creation of CNN where guests see and hear the behind-the-scenes elements of 24-hour news, live. Guests view video clips of the top 100 news stories covered for the past 20 years. The studio tour also features a number of behind-the-scenes demonstrations where guests learn how CNN makes images, like weather maps, appear behind anchors and correspondents. The tour finale showcases the networks that make up the rest of the Turner Broadcasting family such as TBS, TNT, and Cartoon Network

Colorful Midtown

Midtown is one of Atlanta’s most colorful neighborhoods, rich with culture and diversity. Enter this vibrant world first at Atlanta’s newly expanded High Museum of Art, which contains the Southeast’s best collection of fine art in a spectacular and inspiring setting. Designed by esteemed architect Richard Meier, the High Museum is a striking white tile and glass structure that faces Peachtree Street. The museum’s permanent collection is strong in 19th Century American painting, photography and decorative arts. It also houses an extensive collection of early Italian Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, 19th Century French, Eastern and 20th Century art. The High is distinguished as the only major general museum in North America to have a curatorial department specifically devoted to the field of folk and self-taught art.

Next, step outside and gaze upon the colorful blooms at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, featuring 15 acres of outdoor display gardens, the Upper Woodland showcasing five acres of shade-loving ornamentals from around the world and the 10-acre Storza Woods with natural undergrowth and walking trails. Across the Flower Bridge is the two-acre Children’s Garden, which has been designed as a “wellness” garden. The Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory houses rare and endangered plants from tropical rainforests and desert regions. What's New

Downtown Atlanta – Bubbling Over With Excitement

Whether it’s the Olympic Ring Fountain at Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia Aquarium or the tasting room at the New World of Coca Cola®, downtown Atlanta’s tourism epicenter is making a lasting impression on visitors. The Aquarium continues to be downtown Atlanta’s anchor, but the addition of the New World of Coca Cola® next door on five acres of beautiful green space is the latest rage!

All ages will recognize something with items like the original “Barefoot Boy” painting by Norman Rockwell, the 1985 Coke® dispenser from the Space Shuttle Challenger or the American Idol couch. Through May 2008, visit the Pop Culture Gallery and see the world’s most recognized beverage as interpreted by one of America’s most celebrated artists - Andy Warhol - on loan from the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. A 4-D theater takes visitors on a wild journey to find the Coca-Cola® secret formula. In the popular tasting room, visitors may sample 70 Coca-Cola® brands with some unusual flavors sold on other continents. A souvenir bottled Coke®, made at the museum’s Bottle Works exhibit, is a departing gift. The gift store is not your typical souvenir shop. There are unique gifts for the home and wardrobe and you can even “style” your own bottle of Coke®!

The New World of Coca Cola® is transformed at night as private event space. This versatile space accommodates up to 1,500 guests with access to the entire building or exhibits. Cocktails in the Lobby, seated dinner in The Hub with dessert in the Taste It exhibit is sure to be a hit with PRA Atlanta clients.

Downtown Atlanta continues to bubble over with excitement with more hotels, restaurants and special event venues. This friendly international city only gets better!

So Many Restaurants, So Little Time

It seems a new restaurant opens daily in Atlanta. None have created more buzz than Atlanta’s newest hot spot – Ecco. This casual but elegant restaurant features seasonal cuisine with European influences. Other highlights are its creative wine list, oversized bar, open patio, welcoming dining room and private dining space.

Ecco has been named "Best New Restaurant in America" by Esquire “Best New Restaurant 2006” by Atlanta Magazine

Bringing Paris to Atlanta

In the fall of 2006 The High Museum of Art has launched an unprecedented, three-year partnership with the Musée du Louvre, which will bring hundreds of works of art from Paris to Atlanta. Through the “Louvre Atlanta” partnership, “The High” will present a series of long-term, thematic exhibitions featuring masterworks from the Louvre’s collections, many of which have never been seen before in the United States.

Leavin’ On A Jet Plane

Just when you thought Atlanta’s airport couldn’t get any bigger, officials at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport open a fifth runway. The new runway will help reduce aircraft delays at the world’s busiest airport making it easier to fly in and out of Atlanta.

Atlantic Station’s Club Scene

The latest tenants of Atlantic Station arrive from L.A.. The ATL welcomes Dolce, Ten Pin Alley and Geisha House into its ever growing club scene. Backed by Ashton Kutcher, Wilmer Valderrama and Danny Masterson from That 70s Show, Atlanta hipsters and groups lounge in contemporary style and enjoy hip, fresh cuisine.

Ten Pin Alley, opening January 2007, is a mix of a hipster club with a bowling experience. There is no gross out factor with rented shoes here – guests can lounge in the seating areas while watching the flat screen monitors, play pool and bowl strikes while a DJ spins in the background.

Geisha House is a modern Japanese restaurant, Sushi Bar and Sake Lounge embracing traditional Japan while catering to the hip, sophisticated clientele of Atlanta. Dinner with a few friends or a corporate outing, Geisha House is perfect for groups of all sizes.
